DAY 1 WELCOME TO COSTA RICA!

Start your challenge! You will arrive in San Joséafter a long trip. There, you will spend the first night resting in a fantastic hotel near the main tourist attractions.

On the second day, you will have the chance to visit the city or start the trip to Turrialba, also known as the Switzerland of Costa Rica, in the morning. It is located in the mountainous area of the country. And, on that way, you can visit Irazú Volcano.

DAYS 2 / 3 / 4 CANYONING IN THE JUNGLE; TURRIALBA AND RAFTING IN THE PACUARE

On the second day you will arrive in Turrialba, whereyou will be able to rest and enjoy the mountain environment, because the next day, the first challenge starts.

On the third day, in the early morning, our guide will pick you up to start the canyoning activity in this wonderful place in the slopes of the Turrialba and Irazú Volcanoes. We will hike through the jungle, descend through the river slides and rappel in its waterfalls. It’s two days of nature and adrenaline!

 

We will always be visiting the most real and authentic areas of Costa Rica; we will be able to shower and change clothes in beautiful rural houses and, at the end of the activity, we will have a good lunch.

 

On the fourth day, after a good breakfast in the hotel; we will continue our itinerary until we reach the lands of the Sarapiquí Valley in order to go rafting in one of the most famous rivers in Central America of class III-IV waters.

 

We will have a lot of fun throughout the day as we do this activity and have the chance to appreciate the scenic beauty that surrounds Pacuare River. At the end of the activity, we will have a good lunch to regain strength and we start our way to Puerto Viejo, the gate to the Caribbean and nature in its purest state.

 

*For the travelers who choose not to go canyoning, they have the opportunity to do the optional activities of the area. Some are hiking in the Santa Marta Reserve, mountain biking, visiting Turrialba/Irazú Volcanoes, visiting Aquiares Waterfalls or enjoying the beauty of nature in its valleys.

DAYS 5 / 6 / 7 WELCOME TO THE CARIBBEAN: PUERTO VIEJO

These days we will step into the wildest part of Costa Rica’s nature; it is the perfect scenery to spot toucans, white-faced monkeys, iguanas, frogs of fascinating colors and vegetation with unparalleled strength.

 

On the first day, we will go hiking in Cahuita National Park, a trail that goes along the Caribbean Sea, a hike that we will do at a slow pace, stopping at the different beaches that seem to come from a postcard.

 

The next day, we will go kayaking/SUP Punta Uva River, sailing its calm waters in order to have the chance to see all the fauna in its purest state. We will also visit Punta Uva Beach and its lookout, as well as Arrecife beach. We will have the whole afternoon to relax.

 

The last day, we will take surfing lessons imparted by a local professional instructor in the famous Cocles Beach. What better than having the first contact or perfecting your technique in one of the most popular SPOTS for this practice? The surfing and Caribbean environment mix in order to create an atmosphere of reggae and enchanting tranquility.

 

After the end of the activity, you will have the rest of the day off to relax under a palm tree or to keep exploring the area on your own.

 

* Puerto Viejo offers numerous activities for you, such as visiting the Jaguar Refuge Center, hiking in Manzanillo National Park and to its lookout or learning about its coffee culture. It is possible to learn first-hand how coffee was originally made in the area and visit the Bribri Waterfalls.

DAYS 8 / 9 / 10 BOQUETE, ENCHANTING MOUNTAINOUS TOWN IN PANAMA

We will cross the border and start our way to Boquete. We will cross Amistad National Park through a winding road with landscapes that will leave you breathless.

 

During our stay in this town, we will go on a rock climbing workshop in Barù Volcano; where years after its eruption, the walls left have rocks that are perfect for climbers of all levels. There are multiple routes, from amateur to advanced-routes.

 

In the afternoon, we will recharge our batteries, because at night, we will start our ascent to Barú Volcano challenge, where we will delight from the sights of the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean at the summit. At the end of the day, after the descent, our legs will need to rest; therefore, we will have the tenth day off.

 

*For all those who have not accepted to take on the challenge of Barú Volcano, Boquete offers numerous optional activities, such as: going on an interpretative trail to the Hidden Waterfalls (Cascadas Escondidas in Spanish), hiking to look for the famous quetzal and on different coffee trails; in addition, from july to November, we will be able to go whale watching in the Gulf of Chiriquí, just one hour away from Boquete.

DAYS 11 / 12 / 13 / 15 BOCAS DEL TORO, PARADISIACAL ARCHIPELAGO

We return to the Caribbean side, but this time w ego to the paradisiacal beaches of Bocas del Toro. They are worldwide known for its scuba diving, for going dolphin watching and for its paradisiacal beaches, such as Cayo Zapatilla.

 

During these three days, we will go on a tour around the different islands, trying a new popular water activity, Deepboard; an activity where we dive into the sea and we are pulled by a boat. We will turn and spin as if we were real fish. We will visit the mangroves, we will go the Osos Perezozos Island (Sloth Island), we will scuba dive searching for dolphins in Onda Bay, and we will finish the experience having a delicious lunch in the paradisiacal Cayo Zapatilla Island, surrounded by palm and coconut trees.

 

We will continue with 2 days of scuba diving in the different beaches and reefs, having the chance to see the different islands from the ship. For all of those who are stepping into the scuba diving world for the first time, Bocas offers excellent conditions for getting certified with calm, crystal clear waters and also excellent prices. This is the perfect scenery to improve our underwater skills; here, we will have the chance to see an airplane and a shipwreck under the sea, and immense gardens of soft coral, characteristic of its coasts.

 

On the first day of scuba diving, once we have finished the activity, we will start on our way back to Puerto Viejo. We will cross the border and enjoy the last night to the rhythm of reggae and Caribbean sounds

 

*For all of those who have not chosen to take on the scuba diving challenge, Bocas del Toro offers numerous activities and torus to go on. One example is a visit to Estrella Beach, recommended for all travelers for its proximity to the island; you can also go surfing in the famous Bluff Beach and visit Bastimentos National Park.

In addition, we will relax with a good book in any of the beaches or bars by the sea.

DAY 15 PUERTO VIEJO

The experience is coming to an end, it is time to say good-bye to the sea, and the Caribbean environment that has accompanied us the last days. It is time to pack your bags, filled with incredible experiences, and to leave for the capital of the country, San José. At this point, it is time to go home or, if you have booked the extension to Tortuguero National Park, to continue with the adventure.

DAY 15 / 16 OPIONAL EXTENSION; SAILING TORTUGUERO

For all of those who have chosen the extension, the adventure continues! We will visit Tortuguero National Park to sail its canals and enjoy 2 days of pure nature.

 

We recommend that you return the rental car the day before in the Puerto Viejo Alamo offices, because you will have all the transportation services included until San José.

 

On the 16th day, we will be picked up in the early morning at the hotel to be taken to Tortuguero. That day, we will sail its canals on a canoe and in the afternoon, we will go to the town. At night, you will have the chance to go and see the sea turtle lay their eggs, depending on the season.

 

The next day, first thing in the morning, we will go on a canoe tour to see the awakening of the jungle; it is the perfect moment to see the flora and fauna of the place. After arriving to our destination, we will have a delicious breakfast and relax at the hotel. At noon, we will start on our way back to San José.

 

At this point, it truly is time to say good-bye to Costa Rica and go back home. We hope that you have enjoyed every adventure you have experienced, and that your suitcase is filled with new and unforgettable memories.
